Building Stronger Connections

Earwig Communication Tool

Earwig is a fantastic communication tool that helps schools connect with families. At Harlow Fields School and College, we use it to share important updates, news, and insights about our pupils’ progress and activities. This platform is especially beneficial for us as a special school, where keeping families informed and engaged is crucial for supporting our pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Keeping Families in the Loop

We use Earwig to send families regular updates about their child's learning and development. This includes sharing observations, achievements, and specific goals we’ve set for each pupil. The platform allows us to share photos and videos, giving families a glimpse into their child’s daily experiences and milestones. This way, families can feel more connected to what their child is doing at school, which helps strengthen the partnership between home and school.

Promoting Collaboration

At Harlow Fields School and College, we believe in the importance of collaboration between home and school to enhance our pupils' learning experiences. While Earwig facilitates communication, it is important to note that it does not support private two-way conversations. Instead, both parties can comment on records, which can be seen by all teaching staff. This feature is designed for quick comments or praise rather than in-depth discussions.

We encourage parents to upload photos and videos of their children participating in activities outside of school. This initiative allows our teachers to gain valuable insights into how pupils are applying their skills and knowledge in real-world contexts, reinforcing the connection between home and school. By actively promoting this practice, we celebrate and recognise the diverse talents and interests of our pupils while providing a platform for families to engage in their children's learning journey.

Together, we can enrich the educational experience for all our pupils.
